10 Things To Do For An Ultimate Family Beach Day In Ludington

Ludington. Nice weather. Beach. These 3 things go together perfectly so we have developed a list of perfect family beach day activities that all take place within a mile of Stearns Park Beach.

  • Stearns Park Beach

To start the list that revolves around the perfect beach day we have to start with the beach itself. Stearns Beach is the home base for this entire adventure and is a great beach and it's location makes it even better. Great sand and Lake Michigan water make up the 2,500 feet of shoreline. This one is the easiest one on the list. Go to Stearns Beach and enjoy a beach day.

  • North Breakwater Light

When enjoying the day at the beach, the North Breakwater Light sits out on Lake Michigan. The lighthouse is open for tours to go to the top Tuesday-Sunday from 10 AM- 5 PM, weather permitting, from May 1st- September 1st. Even if it is not open to go into, the lighthouse is great to visit and is very photogenic.

  • Mini Golf

Located right at the beach is the Jaycees Mini Golf, which is a Ludington themed mini golf course. themes of the course include Cartier Mansion, the SS Badger, lighthouses, Ludington State Park and more.

  • Lunch at the Beach

Right at Stearns Beach is The Sandbox. The Sandbox actually consists of two locations at the beach, one at the north end and one at the south end. Each of the two locations offer different options. The Sandbox offers snacks for the beach but also has much more for a real lunch including a variety of sliders, sandwiches fries, fruit, ice cream and more.

  • The Port of Ludington Maritime Museum

The Port of Ludington Maritime Museum is located pretty much right at the beach. This is a great maritime museum with exhibits featuring the rich history of the areas maritime past and present. The star of the show is a simulator that puts guests behind the wheel of a car ferry returning to port in Ludington. The museum is a former Coast Guard station that is 3 floors. The museum opens in early May and is open until mid-October, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM- 5 PM

  • House of Flavors

An iconic Michigan ice cream stop is at House of Flavors. Our recommendation is to get a waffle cone with any ice cream choice. There is also the option to dine inside for food beyond ice cream. House of Flavors is a quick walk of under .5 miles from Stearns Beach.

  • Grab a Coffee

We stopped at the Cluck Bucket for food and coffee. Inside of the downtown Cluck Bucket location is Coffee Coop.

  • Sandcastles Children's Museum

Sandcastles Children's Museum is a great stop with kids! There are over 30 exhibits that are hands on which include a climbing wall, a real airplane, an SS Badger play ship and more.

  • Watch the SS Badger Return to Ludington

Each evening around 7 PM the SS Badger return to Port in Ludington. There are many spots to see this from, including Stearns Beach, the North Breakwater and Waterfront Park. Hopefully a salute from the SS Badger will be part of the experience.
