Sault Ste. Marie Fall Bucket List
Are you ready for a fall adventure in Sault Ste. Marie? Here is the Soo fall edition of "Kickin' MI Bucket", our bucket list of things to do in Sault Ste. Marie during the fall. Let's Go!
- Moody Freighter Photo
Freighters and Sault Ste. Marie go together perfectly and you can spend time ship watching in all four seasons, so that is why fall has a special task. It is time to capture a photo with strong fall vibes with colors, fog, sunset or whatever you feel helps you capture the moment. We actually snapped our photo while out in a canoe near Voyager Island after the fog had lifted.
- Hike Voyager Island
Voyager Island is located near Rotary Park on the St. Mary's River. The island is only accessible by non-motorized vessels (canoes, kayaks, paddleboards), so you are going to need one to check this item off the bucket list! The island has great trails with different areas to sit and view the ship traffic going by from a very close distance! The easiest way to get to the island would be to launch from Rotary Park and enjoy a paddle through one of our favorite areas to paddle and then make your way onto the island.
- Coffee with the Freighters
There are so many great places for this! The easiest is to go downtown and grab a coffee and walk around the Soo Locks park. We actually enjoyed our coffee this fall from one of the benches on Voyager Island. Other great spots to watch the freighters include Brady Park and Rotary Park. Remember, this bucket list item is about enjoying a coffee (or hot chocolate/cider if you are not a coffee fan!) while watching the freighters pass by.
- Show Canada the Perfect Leaf
It's fall and Canada loves its maple leaf so we decided to show them some of the best leaves around!
- Have a Fall Treat
For our fall treat, we decided to go with a pumpkin themed beverage from Oh Crepe & Coffee. You could also find a beverage at a bar or a something fun from one of the candy or fudge shops!
- Go for a Hike
There are a variety of places in and around Sault Ste. Marie to make this happen and new trails are being built right now! Check out this ever growing list here.
- Take a Night Sky Photo
The Soo offers great areas to get away from the lights for the opportunity for night sky photography. Maybe you could even have a two-for-one of night sky photos and looking for Yooperlites!
- Fall Lighthouse Photo
There are a few places in the greater area that you can make this happen and it is a great way to include a fall color drive. You can stop at Point Iroquois Lighthouse, Whitefish Point Lighthouse and Crisp Point Lighthouse.
- Walk Along Lake Superior
The St. Mary's River leads out into Lake Superior and taking a walk along the shores of Lake Superior is amazing this time of year!
- Appreciate Mission Hill's View
We enjoy stopping here during every season, but fall is always really special!
You can use our list to help plan your adventures in Sault Ste. Marie! This is by no means a complete list but a great starting point for a fun visit to the Soo! Check out our Fall Kickin' MI Bucket video below!
