A Biking Adventure in the Great Lakes Bay Region

The warm weather is here and we have our bikes ready for summer! We planned a biking adventure that included stops in Midland, Bay City and Saginaw, sometimes referred to as the Great Lakes Bay region.

Let's start off in Midland. We had heard about the trails at Midland City Forest and after our planning we thought this would be a perfect spot to ride the single track trails. Once we arrived, we checked out the various options, which includes over 13 miles of single track trails. Beyond the single track trails, there are also multi-use trails, lit trails and trails for winter fun as well! We decided to do the North Loop, which included some really fun features, including what we refer to as a "roller coaster" wooden bridge. We decided to give it a try but there was also the option to go around it if you want. It was a success and overall the trail was a lot of fun! Next time we plan on riding one or two of the other loops but this trip had a few more destinations we had to get to.

We decided to make a stop at Midland's new distillery and taproom, Three Bridges. If you can imagine, it is near Midland's iconic Tridge. Besides good drinks, we also had the charcuterie box. A great stop while you are in Midland!

After leaving midland, we were off to Bay City. We decided to ride down the Bay County Riverwalk, which is along the Saginaw River. There were a lot of people fishing along the river and some cool stops, including a massive rudder from an old ship. After riding, we made our way across the river to downtown Bay City for lunch at BraqueBC Taqueria and a coffee from the Travelin' Tom's Coffee truck. Bay City has a of fun restaurants and more on the way, including a new Prost! Wine and Charcuterie location to go along with their original location in Frankenmuth.

After finishing our time in Bay City, we were on our way to Saginaw. This was for two reasons. One was to go ride the Saginaw Valley Rail-Trail and the second was to go on the Go Great Lakes Bay Podcast. After riding the rail-trail we also checked out the trails along the Shiawassee River before heading to record the podcast.
