Happy 906 Day!
Is there anyone out there more passionate about where they are from than a Yooper? There is a special day every year that we come to celebrate all-things U.P. and that is September 6. Why, you may ask? Well, that is because the entire area code for Michigan's Upper Peninsula is 906! Get it? September is the 9th month of the year and today is the 6th. So, 9/06/2019. Today we celebrate!
Whether you are in Sault Ste. Marie, Marquette, Calumet, Mackinac Island or even Isle Royale, 906 has a special meaning and also comes in as one of the least populated area codes in North America.
What are some of the amazing things that make the U.P. an amazing place? First, Yoopers get to claim 3 of the 5 Great Lakes. Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron which add up to 1,700 miles of shoreline! Add that to the more than 4,000 inland lakes and thousands of miles of rivers and you are guaranteed to be able to find your water fix here!
Have you ever had a pasty? With gravy? With ketchup? Ask a Yooper how they prefer their pasty and your are guaranteed to get a passionate answer!
The Mackinac Bridge. We may be biased, but it is the best bridge in the world!
Have you ever seen a Great Lakes freighter up close? The Soo Locks and St. Mary's River offer amazing views of these massive ships.
Some people are so intrigued by the sauna. It's a way of life for a Yooper. When it is 20 below zero, 190 degrees is the way to go. Having a sauna at your home in common in the U.P.
The list could go on and on and we want to hear from you. What is your favorite part about the Upper Peninsula?

Cheers and Happy 906 Day!
