Happy 65th Birthday to the Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge opened to traffic on November 1, 1957, so today is the 65th year it has been opened. The Mighty Mac, as many people refer to the bridge as, is an iconic part of Michigan connecting the Lower and Upper Peninsulas. If you have never driven across this amazing bridge, add it to your list! The bridge spans over 5 miles and there are great viewing points throughout the area where you can take in views from all angles. We have driven over it, flown over it and been underneath of it.

Some of the best views of the bridge come from Straits State Park in St. Ignace where there are viewing platforms and also great views from the waters edge.

Check out some videos featuring the Mackinac Bridge!

Some of my earliest memories was crossing the straits on the ferry. What a treat to finally cross on the bridge. We always wanted our parents to drive in the left lane so we could hear the bridge talk. I can still here it in my mind at 72.
