Outdoor and Indoor Winter Adventure in Ludington
Ludington, Michigan during winter is always a great experience and this time we decided to go with a mix of outdoor recreation on the trails while also mixing in some indoor activities.
Last winter, much of Ludington State Park was closed for renovations, so we were very happy to have the entire park to explore again this winter. That led us to one of our favorite areas, the Lost Lake Loop. As the name suggests, this loop trail goes around Lost Lake. Part of what makes this trail so great is the ever changing views, including sections that run along Hamlin Lake. We enjoy hiking this trail in every season, and the entire park is amazing during winter with 21 miles of marked trails.
While hiking we also like to stock up on trail snacks. This time we made a stop at Ludington Meat Company before heading out to the park.
An awesome thing happens during the winter at the park as the Friends of Ludington State Park host lantern lit hikes. These events for February and March 2026 include February 7th, 21st, and March 7th, and they take place from 6 PM to 8 PM. There will be bonfires, hot chocolate, marshmallows for roasting, and snowshoes available, all free of charge. This is a great way to get out and experience the park in winter with a pre planned adventure.
While mixing in a stop at Pier to Per Picnics and HumaniTea, we kept things inside for a while with a stop at 24/7 Golf and Pickleball. As the name suggests, this place is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with golf simulators and indoor pickleball courts. The simulators and pickleball courts can be reserved online. A standout for us was the non traditional golf games on the simulator, which are fun for golfers of all skill levels.
With the growth in popularity of pickleball, indoor courts are a great option for playing during winter in Ludington.
The next part of the adventure brought us back outside to Cartier Park for a walk through the snowy trails. The trail system at the park also includes fat biking trails and the Central Bark dog park. One of our favorite parts of Cartier Park is its close proximity to downtown Ludington.
