Road Trips from MI Backyard: Sault Ste. Marie

On episode 2 of Road Trips from MI Backyard, we are "traveling" to Sault Ste. Marie! The Soo, as many people call it, is very special to us as it is where we grew up. We spend a lot of time in the area and cant wait to get there this summer to get out on the St. Mary's River!

Let's start off by talking about Rotary Island and the surround islands, islands 1,2, and 3. One of the islands did get a name upgrade to Voyager Island and it is a great spot! What you need to do is grab your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and head to Rotary. You can put in there and explore around all of the islands and then get out on Voyager Island. It is one of the best spots in the state to watch freighters passing by. We like to bring our hammocks but there are also benches along the way.

Next up, The Barmuda Triangle. That is the name of the downtown entertainment area, which is know for very affordable drinks. We often stop at multiple spots including Moloney's Alley, Soo Brewing and BirdsEye. BirdsEye also offers coffee and gear, including rentals. So if you are in the area and don't have your kayak or paddleboard, they can hook you up!

We admit, we are not great fisherman, but we do enjoy fishing. There is a lot of great fishing in the area and, depending on the season, find a wide variety of species including Salmon, Walleye and Pike.

This video ends with a montage of some of our favorite recent clips from the area. If you have never visited Sault Ste. Marie, or it has been a while, we recommend checking it out.
