South Haven Fall Biking Exploration

We recently learned that South Haven is a designated Pure Michigan Trail Town. That led to a plan to explore the South Haven trails by bike during the fall colors. We ride the Kal-Haven Trail. downtown South Haven and out to Van Buren State Park with fun stops along the way.  

Our adventure started on the Kal-Haven Trail. We wanted to ride out to the covered bridge that passes over the Black River. This ride through tunnels of trees offered amazing bright gold fall colors along the river. We made our way to the bridge and beyond before turning around to head back into South Haven. For those looking for a long ride, this trail goes all the way to Kalamazoo!

Next up we were ready to head downtown but came across a pump track on the way. Since this is all about biking, we decided to give it a try before stopping downtown for a coffee and continuing along the Van Buren Trail. 

Along the Van Buren Trail is a disc golf course that we wanted to play. We often times find adventures throughout our days but this was planned. We knew this course was long our route so we had our gear with us. We have been playing disc golf more and can even see some improvements in our game!

After a competitive game of disc golf, we finished our ride to Van Buren State Park to check out the dunes and Lake Michigan. This was our first time visiting this park and the dunes are impressive! 

With a day full of biking complete there were a couple of more things we wanted to do during our time in South Haven. That started with a visit to Three Blondes Brewing. This has been a brewery we have wanted to visit for a while so it was great to be able to check it out for the first time. It won't be our last visit, that's for sure!

It doesn't matter what season it is, when there is a lighthouse, we go check it out! Every season offers its own unique experience at a lighthouse. With the lake being calm we were able to walk the pier out to the lighthouse and capture some photos and talk to people fishing along the pier. We also captured a sunset because if you have followed along with us for a while you know we are Team Sunset!

Overall we had an amazing time visiting South Haven. There are great biking trails and during our next visit we plan on checking out the water trails that are part of this Trail Town!
