Things To Do This Summer in St. Ignace

We are ready for summer in St. Ignace so we put together a list of things to do in the area!

Let's start off with something really unique to do in St. Ignace and that is to take a helicopter tour around the area and over the Mackinac Bridge. This will give you a while new perspective of the area and spectacular views of the bridge. The tour is with MyFlight and leaves from the airport located in St. Ignace, which is called the Mackinac County Airport. We recommend checking out their website for available dates and times, which currently show tours available starting on May 18th.

Let's talk ORV trails. The ability to make St. Ignace your home base for an ORV adventure makes a lot of sense, especially since there is a trailhead close to hotels and restaurants. There is parking for trailers near the Little Bear East Arena and that is right near a trailhead. From there, you will have access to hundreds of miles of trails in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

Next up we are talking about a iconic landmark located right along I-75 in St. Ignace and that is Castle Rock. Opening in May, Castle Rock offers views of the area from almost 200 feet high. From the top you can see Lake Huron, St. Ignace, Mackinac Island, the top of the Mackinac Bridge and forest as far as your eyes can see. Before climbing the stairs to the top, and yes, there are quite a few stairs, stop by and say hello to Paul Bunyan and Babe. An awesome part about Castle Rock besides the views is that it only costs $1 to go to the top.

Next up is a 2 for 1 stop and that is to head to Silver Mountain for mountain biking and disc golf. The mountain bike trail is a loop at that is just under 1.6 miles with fun elevation changes and views of Lake Michigan. Some riders may opt for doing a few laps. As you ride the trail you will notice that a disc golf course is also at Silver Mountain and that leads to us typically riding a lap or two then playing a round of disc golf. A tip when leaving. Take a quick turn right (west) on US-2 and grab a pasty from Lehto's and enjoy it at one of the overlooks on your way back towards downtown.

Also located out in this same direction is a place that needs to be on your list of summer activities in St. Ignace and that is The Mystery Spot. The Mystery Spot opens are the beginning of May and is truly a unique experience. There are a variety of activities at The Mystery Spot and we can't tell you to just pick one! The guided tour of The Mystery Spot, the Human Maze in the Woods and mini golf can all be part of a combo ticket. An additional thing to do is the zip lines. Not only are the zip lines fun, they also offer a view of the Mackinac Bridge from one of the platforms. If you are like us, we like to get views of the bridge from all possible angles.

A go-to for us in every season in St. Ignace for us is to visit Straits State Park. There are many reasons we enjoy this park and one of them is that this is where we get that amazing view right down the center of the Mackinac Bridge. There are also hiking trails through the park, including a section of the North Country Trail that starts off the Upper Peninsula section of the trail right over the bridge. There are also additional lookout points to view the Mackinac. You can hike the trails to get to them or park right by them.

Much of St. Ignace includes waterfront, and if you know us, that is perfect for what we enjoy doing. Whether it is stopping at one of the beaches, grabbing something to eat along the waterfront or walking the boardwalk out to the lighthouse, there is something for everyone. We enjoy putting in our paddleboards and taking in the views of downtown from a different perspective.

Another thing that St. Ignace offers is a full summer calendar of events such as the car show weekend, Jeep the Mac, Bronco the Mac, Native American Festival, fireworks over the bay and more. You can check out the entire calendar here.
